I love books that make you contemplate life, the world and possible alternative realities, other worlds and somehow when it's reflected in a book or onto paper it seems even more credible, and that's exactly what Morris conveyed in his novel. My impression of this book is an eclectic mix of genres, and also comparisons between Black Mirror and the Jim Carrey film The Truman Show. I was hooked. Alex is a very particular character, clear struggles with his mental and physical health and previous relationships (his ex makes his life hell). He also struggles with attempting a parent-child bond with his daughter Ellie. His reflection on life was poor, which immediately made me feel incredibly empathetic for him. His personality and his downfalls were clear in Morris' writing. Working in data, he was fantastic at his job, but even there he felt unseen and overlooked. Alex then decides to obtain some google glasses, he wants to escape his current world and circumstances, even for just a little moment...and that's when everything changes, Alex jumps, and wakes up to a completely different reality to what he knew, EVERYONE wearing G-wholes. Life as he once knew it was completely warped, his hoarding in his flat diminished, his daughter Ellie no longer exists, and that's when his fight for humanity begins. Weirdly, books like this always make me think of the future, is our freedom of speech gone, are there more power over us and lack of privacy? In the new world, everything is monitored, footage, bullying and conversations, everything is watched, and recorded. Morris' writing portrayed the characters perfectly, we really got an insight into their vulnerabilities. You could tell the author put an immense effort into making them realistic. Alex's iron levels dropped in the new reality, which makes him pretty much invisible, I never expected that in the book, fantastic twist, and without spoiling it, what he used this for was very very clever. Data and technology are rife in this book, but as a reader like myself, the best I could ever do is turn a machine on and off and pray it works, but the narrative was THAT clear and concise that I never worried about getting into the technicality of things. I loved the use of rhetorical questions and the narrative used flowed very easily.

The sense of humour was a huge hit for me, I giggled so much at the witty comments, in his "new found- relationship". I think the author portrayed his personality very well within his writing, because I found it hilarious. Full of suspense, survival, self-discovery, this book is definitely

worth the read. I also left out a few bits in this review because there is a huge turn that may spoil it. But what if you bumped into your OTHER self? Chased by enemies in a bid to correct all the wrong-doings. Everything is finally matching up, and Alex seems like he 'fits in' to the new reality, but how does he get home? Does he want to go back to his ordinary life?

The book in itself was a rollercoaster, a thrilling experience not to be missed, satire, dystopian themes and fantastic pacing of the plot.

You'll have to read this to find out. Refreshing, new, unique, would recommend to anyone.
